When news broke that Les Snead was trading a late first-round pick to acquire and then extend Trent McDuffie to a long-term deal, it felt like a classic Los Angeles Rams play.
A SoCal native who was born in Westminster 26 years ago, fans are eager to see if McDuffie can match his Kansas City Chiefs production back home, and as it turns out, the two-time Super Bowl champion might just have an inside track to do just that, as he has a long-time friend in fellow Rams DB Quentin Lake, who can help him along the process.
“Yeah, I love Q Lake. We go back to high school a little bit, you know, he was a senior, when I was a freshman, but I always call him Cap, you know what I mean, from Orange County, but he’s one of those guys that I say is just a vocal leader, you know, he’s always going to do things the right way, and he’s always going to make sure he comes in and makes people smile, which I love, you know,” McDuffie told reporters on Monday.
“The days that it’s hard, the days we have a hard lift and we have to come out here and practice and work really hard, he’s always one of those guys that has a smile on his face, and it’s just loving where he’s at, and I think a lot of guys gravitate towards that, a lot of guys can kind of just get out of their own funk and just be like, okay, you know what, yeah, I’m happy to be here and I’m happy to work when you have guys like that around.”
Spending one year together at Mater Dei High School before McDuffie transferred to Servite High School and finally St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower, California, it’s been over a decade since the duo were teammates on a California-based football team. The fact that McDuffie still has so much respect for Lake even after all of this time really showcases the level of admiration he must have for the do-it-all Rams defender, not to mention why fans should be hyped to see them take the field together this fall.
