Las Vegas Raiders minority owner Tom Brady knows a thing or two about great quarterback play. The NFL legend won a record seven Super Bowls with the Patriots and Buccaneers, and understand just how important great quarterback play is.
Brady is reportedly wielding significant influence in big decisions for the Raiders, such as the quarterback situation that has been the team’s bugaboo for much of the last two decades. Los Angeles Rams star Matthew Stafford is on the trade block, and the two “accidentally” crossed paths on vacation rcently, sparking speculation that the Raiders could make a move for the veteran.
Stafford, who won Super Bowl LVI with the Rams after being traded from Detroit to Los Angeles, was very good in 2024 despite being 37-years old. A team that battled significant injuries was kept afloat by steady play from Stafford, and they nearly upset eventual Super Bowl Champions Philadelphia in the NFC Divisional Round, falling just short of the game-winning touchdown.
But, Stafford needs a new contract, and the Rams aren’t sure if they want to commit to the terms that Stafford wants and if that’s the most prudent thing for them going forward.
The Raiders definitely need to solve their quarterback situation, and given that they pick 6th in the upcoming NFL Draft, the top two quarterbacks, Miami’s Cam Ward and Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, could be off the board. If they traded for Stafford it would provide short-term stability at the position as new head coach Pete Carroll tries to establish a winning culture.
Apparently, Brady and Stafford recently crossed paths and had a brief discussion, according to an Ian Rapoport tweet.
#Raiders minority owner Tom Brady and #Rams QB Matthew Stafford ran into each other at a ski resort in Montana, sources say. The meeting, unplanned, was not extensive or in-depth and did not include Brady “hosting” or “recruiting” Stafford, despite reports saying otherwise.
I find it hard to believe they didn’t at least quickly discuss the possibility of Matthew Stafford joining the Raiders. It just makes too much sense for both sides.
