Nonstop quarterback rumors have only added to LA’s offseason drama
It’s only February, and this has already felt like the longest Los Angeles Rams offseason ever. Every day, some new rumor circulates that only adds to the nauseating ride the Rams have taken their fanbase on.
“The Rams have given Matthew Stafford permission to seek a trade.”
“LA would like to reconcile their differences with Stafford.”
“Tom Brady has reportedly approached Stafford’s camp about joining Raiders.”
“Aaron Rodgers is interested in working with Sean McVay.”
“Rodgers would bring Davante Adams with him to LA.”
“Should the Rams trade for Trevor Lawrence?”
The quarterback carousel alone is making me sick to my stomach. Perhaps the oddest part about this entire drama is that LA is coming off back-to-back playoff appearances and will enter 2025 as the reigning NFC West champions. However, absolutely nothing about this offseason has felt like a team aiming for a Super Bowl run next year.
On the Feb. 25 episode of the “Fitz & Whit” podcast, McVay said retaining Stafford is the Rams’ “first goal,” but who the hell even knows at this point?
Everyone in Los Angeles is acting like the sky is falling, and considering all these absurd rumors since the Rams lost in the Divisional Round, it’s hard not to feel that way.
I’ve written about one of those rumors about Rodgers, saying what a mistake it would be for the Rams to sign him if they give Stafford the boot. It’s not a matter of Rodgers being “washed,” as he can still sling it with the best of them.
A-Rod has grown into a cancer that no organization should want anything to do with. Only a handful of Rams writers have been brave enough to say it.
Sure signing Rodgers would be great at first, but trust me, the honeymoon period wears off quickly. And by all means, let’s replace an aging QB with an older option. Gosh, that’s brilliant!
Although if LA signed Rodgers, I cannot wait to write the “I told you so” post when the Rams fall way short of expectations with him.
Is it really too much to ask the front office to re-sign Stafford? What about making up with Cooper Kupp? While Stafford is imperfect under center, his skills clearly haven’t diminished and he nearly got the Rams to the NFC Championship. That has to account for something, right? I don’t understand why it feels like a portion of the fanbase has suddenly turned on him.
Like c’mon, there wasn’t this much drama when McVay was considering retirement.
Once Kupp revealed the team planned to move on, that’s the moment we knew this offseason would be different. Yet, no one knew how chaotic it would become, and I can’t be the only one fed up with all the annoying rumors we’re drowning in daily.
Regardless of what happens, McVay and Les Snead have earned our trust. Let’s hope they make all the right calls or this offseason will...
