The Philadelphia Eagles are shaking up their wide receiver room following the blockbuster trade that sent superstar pass-catcher A.J. Brown out of town. As head coach Nick Sirianni and the front office look to patch the sudden hole in their depth chart, a familiar face is getting a shot to prove he belongs in midnight green.

Veteran wide receiver James Proche II is officially participating in the Eagles’ mandatory minicamp this week on a tryout basis.

Proche, a former sixth-round draft pick by the Baltimore Ravens out of SMU, spent the 2025 season with the Tennessee Titans. While he didn’t put up eye-popping numbers in Nashville, he carved out a role as a dependable depth piece and return specialist. Proche appeared in nine games for the Titans last year, even earning two starts when injuries hit Tennessee’s receiving corps.

Now, the 29-year-old wideout is hoping to impress the coaching staff in Philly enough to earn a roster spot ahead of training camp.

The Eagles’ decision to bring in Proche highlights their urgent need for experienced depth. Trading away Brown strips the offense of an All-Pro target, leaving DeVonta Smith to shoulder the load as the clear-cut WR1. Behind Smith, the depth chart is wide open. Proche brings 43 games of NFL experience to the table, along with proven utility on special teams, a crucial factor for any player fighting for the final spots on a 53-man roster.

During his time with Baltimore and Tennessee, Proche proved he could be a reliable possession receiver when his number was called, though he has primarily made his living in the league as a punt returner.

Philly’s minicamp will serve as a high-stakes audition for the veteran. If Proche can flash the quickness and route-running ability that made him a college star, he might just extend his NFL career in the City of Brotherly Love.
