Stampede Blue
What’s this? I can’t believe my eyes.
What’s this? There’s something very wrong.
Who doesn’t love The Nightmare Before Christmas? The movie is great. The nightmare before Christmas the Indianapolis Colts are experiencing is truly horrifying, however. There are no fun sing-along songs or magical Christmas town to behold. The Colts find themselves in Ooggie Boogie’s torture chamber with no possible escape as a truly promising season has now devolved into the unimaginable. 7-1 has turned into a puddle of mush as the Colts sit at 8-5 on the season and are now without their quarterback.
Jack Skellington is the Pumpkin King in the movie and the Colts’ version of a pumpkin king turned into a straight up pumpkin. Pre-injury, everyone was waiting on Daniel Jones and this offense to come back down to Earth. It was all too good to be true and starting with the Steelers game, there were obviously chinks in the armor. The Colts are now 1-3 in their last four contests and the spiraling just got worse as it was confirmed that Jones tore his Achilles. Not only is this season looking like it is done, but the question now lingers, what does the future hold?
The Colts appeared to have found answers but all of those “answers” have turned back into question marks. Jones is hurt and will be on the shelf for some time. Did he show enough to be part of this team’s long term plans? That is seriously in doubt and leaving on a low note that was the last four games won’t do him any favors. What about coaching? The defense is looking porous, and the offense is looking rough. Shane Steichen had a shot at Coach of the Year. Now, he will be lucky to be “coach of the Colts” in 2026. Let’s leave Chris Ballard alone. Too much emotion in this situation already. No reason to stir up more.
The Colts are stuck in Halloween town, but the frights are not delightful. Even Sally can’t stitch this one back together as the season has completely imploded. Talks of a Super Bowl were happening a month ago when the Colts acquired Sauce Gardner. Now, the Colts might be looking to make major overhauls in coaching and player personnel. Yes, the nightmare before Christmas occurred right before our eyes, but it doesn’t mean it’s easy to believe them.
