The Pittsburgh Steelers have ruled out a third safety for their game against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, as Chuck Clark has been ruled out with an illness.
Friday was also when Clark’s status first came up for the game, when he first missed practice with an illness. He was listed as questionable on Friday, but was downgraded to out after the team’s walkthrough on Saturday.
Clark has started four games for the Steelers this season, playing primarily free safety. Juan Thornhill and Jalen Ramsey have also played a good bit of free safety and should be able to replace him there.
It’s the Steelers other safety spot, where Clark has also dabbled, that’s in deep trouble. Elliott, Peppers and Clark would have likely been the first three options at that spot, which is now down to just Kyle Dugger, who has two practices under his belt since being traded from the New England Patriots, and practice squad player Jack Henderson.
