The Pittsburgh Steelers have placed left tackle Broderick Jones (neck) on the injured reserve list, the team announced on Saturday. Jones will miss at least the next four games.

Jones was injured in the second half of Sunday’s loss to the Chicago Bears, when he was pass protecting for Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph, and a late-rushing Bears defender hit him high.

He left the Steelers sideline and was taken to the locker room for evaluation. Jones was listed as questionable to return with a stinger, but he did not, with backup Calvin Anderson finishing the game.

Stingers are extremely painful nerve injuries that can be a cause of or symptom of more serious issues. Repeated stingers caused current Steelers cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. elected to have neck surgery this offseason, and the injuries that eventually ended the careers of Steelers defensive backs Ryan Watts and Trenton Thompson were initially described as stingers.

Jones was walking around the Steelers locker room after the game without apparent issue and said he’s doing OK, but head coach Mike Tomlin quickly ruled him out for this coming week on Tuesday.

The team’s first-round pick out of Georgia in the 2023 NFL Draft, Jones has never missed a game in his three-year NFL career, playing in his 45th consecutive contest on Sunday.

Andrus Peat will make his first start at left tackle for the Steelers, Tomlin announced on Friday.

Peat has played both left guard and left tackle over the course of his career, but has primarily played guard, with 4,477 snaps at the interior position compared to 1,959 on the exterior.

The last time he started a game at left tackle was Week 18 of the 2023 season, when he was with the New Orleans Saints. Last season, he played 11 snaps of left cable in a backup role for the Las Vegas Raiders. The 32-year-old Peat was a first-round pick of the Saints in 2015 and spent his entire career with New Orleans up until 2024.

The Steelers signed Peat in the middle of training camp this summer, and he played both left tackle and left guard in the preseason for the team.
