Cornerback is often seen as one of the most difficult positions to play in football, but Quinyon Mitchell of the Philadelphia Eagles has been making it look easy. The second-year pro has been improving some vital parts of his game.
A stat shows how Mitchell is among the NFL’s best cornerbacks.
“Quinyon Mitchell is allowing 49% completion percentage against and ranks second behind only Patrick Surtain in the NFL in average separation when targeted this season,” EJ Smith wrote on X.

It should also be noted that Mitchell has allowed an average of just 1.8 yards of separation on his targets, which is the second-tightest coverage in the NFL, again behind Surtain, who is the reigning Defensive Player of the Year. That proves that Mitchell can stay on top of receivers during every play.
Mitchell is a crucial part of the Eagles’ defense, which is why fans were nervous when they feared that he was injured in their Week 10 game. Following a sequence involving wide receiver Christian Watson of the Green Bay Packers, Mitchell left the game.
But it wasn’t long before he walked out of the blue tent, seemingly healthy and ready to contribute. The moment was worrisome for multiple reasons, notably because Mitchell had a hamstring injury just a few weeks ago, and his participation was in question then.
If the Eagles want to get back to the Super Bowl, they need him to remain healthy. On “Monday Night Football,” the Eagles and Packers’ defensive lines battled it out for the entire game.
Yet, Mitchell showed his ability to shut down an offense, clamp down on defense, and break up passes. He is being targeted less often this year, and he is playing better than ever.
