Steel City Blitz
Hey Steelers Fans. Welcome to Tuesday.
So D.K. Metcalf grabs seven passes for 148 yards. Fills in as the gunner on punt team and then is taken off the plane before it departs Baltimore due to abdominal pain. He stayed overnight in a Baltimore hospital and returned to Pittsburgh on Monday. D.K. may be a lot of things but don’t call this guy a ‘diva.’ How many number one wideouts do you see filling in for the most difficult position on Special Teams? Very few, that’s how many. The more timely issue now is whether he will be able to play Monday Night. I’m sure Mike Tomlin will address today in his presser.
There’s an old saying that suggests a realist is just a pessimist in disguise. In other words, the individual masks all of their negativity about a subject – in this case the Pittsburgh Steelers – with what they call a ‘realist attitude.’ I believe that isn’t true however. As a realist I can say just as many positive things about the Steelers as I can negative. A pessimist just can’t be positive… ever. I have always taken an honest, pragmatic approach with this team and I’ll continue to do so.
If you weren’t already rooting for Darnell Washington then watch this and I guarantee you’ll appreciate him even more. Incredible story.
The Indianapolis Colts are so desperate that they will try out former Charger and former Colt Philip Rivers on Tuesday. He hasn’t taken a snap in an NFL game since 2020. Rivers turned 44 years old Monday and is actually a grandfather. If Aaron Rodgers goes down we might be calling in Mark Malone!
Two areas of concern for the Steelers right now are the lack of depth on the defensive line and the left tackle position. Before he left due to concussion protocol, Andrus Peat was having an “OK” day. It wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t great either. Dylan Cook came in and made his first-ever appearance in a game at left tackle. Needless to say, I think the Steelers are very concerned about this position moving forward. As far as the defensive line goes, they could really use an extra body right now with Derrick Harmon still out. Keeanu Benton does a lot of good things but he’s not your classic ‘two-gapping’ defensive lineman. Surrendering 470 yards of rushing in the last eight quarters isn’t all on the D-Line, but that’s where it starts and it has to be better.
I’ll have my weekly short-form podcast tonight as usual. The SCB Steelers Inside Blitz typically airs on Tuesday evening so I’ll be throwing together some thoughts as we head into the regular podcast coming up Thursday at 10pmET.
I don’t know who made the call for Notre Dame to not play in a bowl...
