The Pittsburgh Steelers have called the Las Vegas Raiders about trading for wide receiver Jakobi Meyers, but are now looking around at other options, after finding the price tag prohibitively high.
According to a report by Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Steelers have called about Meyers, a player they have been interested in acquiring since the summer, but found the price tag too high.
Russini said the Buffalo Bills have also called about Meyers. Jordan Schultz of FOX reported on Monday that Raiders general manager John Spytek is seeking at least a day two pick in exchange for the veteran wide receiver.
If the Steelers turn away from Meyers, other potential options in the trade market include Calvin Ridley of the Tennessee Titans and Jaylen Waddle of the Miami Dolphins, according to a report by Tony Pauline of Sportskeeda.
The Steelers have been seeking a second outside wide receiver to pair with DK Metcalf since trading George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys in May.
Meyers, 28, requested a trade from Las Vegas this summer, a request he reiterated since the start of the season, but it seems that the Raiders are not motivated sellers and are keeping a high asking price, with the trade deadline just three days away.
The 6-foot-2, 193-pound receiver did not play in the Raiders’ blowout loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 7 after being listed as questionable with knee and toe injuries. However, head coach Pete Carroll said Meyers is expected to return to health before the trade deadline.
Las Vegas had a bye in Week 8 before the team returns to action with the home game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. The NFL trade deadline is two days later, on Nov. 4.
Meyers had a career-best season in 2024, recording 87 catches for 1,027 yards and four touchdowns. In six games this season, he has hauled in 29 passes for 329 yards.
Things have not gone according to plan for the Raiders this season. They lost 31-0 to the Chiefs in Week 7 — their second 30-point loss of the season. At 2-5, Las Vegas is in last place in the AFC West, two games behind the Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers.
