Most coaches and players around the NFL would love to be in the Philadelphia Eagles‘ shoes. Not just because they won the Super Bowl last season, but also because at 7-2, the Eagles are tied for having the best record in the NFC.
Though, it turns out, not everyone wants to be a part of the Eagles’ ongoing success. Some are even quitting the team.
Specifically, The Athletic’s NFL insider Dianna Russini reports that two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander has informed the Eagles that he’s stepping away from the team. Alexander’s new focus will be on “getting right mentally and physically.”
While he is reportedly contemplating retirement at the age of 28, the way the report is detailed, it makes it seem like he’d prefer to focus on his future in football rather than a life off the playing field. It’s possible that Alexander just hasn’t felt like he’s back to 100% health after being limited to just a total of 14 games from 2023 to 2024 with the Packers.
For now, Alexander won’t be on the football field again, presumably at all this season, since the Eagles still hold his rights. It’s also odd timing, considering the Eagles just traded a 2026 sixth-round pick to the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for Alexander before the NFL trade deadline. That trade happened on Nov. 1. Ten days later, he’s apparently done with the team.
