Drake Maye has developed a strong rapport with Stefon Diggs throughout their first season together. The New England Patriots quarterback reminded everyone of their age gap following Thursday night’s 27-14 victory over the New York Jets.

Maye connected with Diggs on nine of 11 targets for 105 yards in New England’s eighth straight win. Asked after the game if he’s needed time to trust the 31-year-old wide receiver, via WEEI’s Tom Carroll, the 23-year-old passer joked about believing in Diggs since he was a kid watching the NFL.

“No, that trust was built up probably when I was in middle school when he was playing in the league,” Maye said. “It was long ago. You know, guys like him and Hunter (Henry) and Mack (Hollins), you trust those guys for what they’ve done in this league. And I just try to give them chances.”

Maye was 12 when the Minnesota Vikings selected Diggs with a fifth-round pick in 2015. Diggs notched his first All-Pro campaign with a league-leading 127 catches and 1,535 receiving yards during Maye’s senior year of high school.

They’re now forming a prolific duo for the NFL’s No. 8 passing offense. Diggs leads the Patriots with 659 receiving yards, putting the 11-year pro right on pace to register his seventh 1,000-yard campaign.

The veteran commended Maye after another strong performance Thursday, per NFL Network’s Judy Battista.

“Just him doing his job. He’s a young player that’s playing extremely well,” Diggs said. “He’s got a decent supporting cast, but he’s out there making plays. I’m just super proud of him.”
