The New York Giants may have discovered a future superstar in rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart, but there are significant concerns about how he plays.
Dart is great at making plays with his legs, but he still needs to learn when to slide and get out of bounds before taking a hit. There have been several instances this season in which Dart endured significant hits, such as during Monday night’s game against the New England Patriots, when linebacker Christian Elliss delivered a hard, legal hit as Dart was running toward the sidelines.
Former Patriots safety Devin McCourty thinks Dart is a fool for the way he’s taking hits this season.
“If he’s really going to do that, I would tell him he’s a fool,” McCourty said on Tuesday during the “Dan Patrick Show”. “It’s not going to last in the NFL.”
Before Monday’s game, Dart sat out the Giants’ last two contests due to a concussion. Throughout this season, he’s already found himself in the blue medical tent several times, and he’s fortunate he hasn’t encountered a more serious, season-ending injury.
There’s no doubt about Dart’s talent, but the most crucial factor is a player’s availability. If he’s not on the field, then all the skills he brings to the table won’t matter.
