Rumors suggested that the Patriots were eyeing several wide receivers before the Nov. 4 NFL trade deadline, but New England ultimately decided against making any moves.
One of the receivers New England possibly pursued was Chris Olave of the New Orleans Saints, who ultimately wasn’t traded to any team.
Olave has one more year remaining on his contract after this season, and the Patriots might consider trading for him in the upcoming offseason. However, it seems that he’s not willing to leave New Orleans anytime soon.
“It’s in the works,” Olave said on Friday about a contract extension during “Up & Adams”. “I want to be in New Orleans forever.”
The Saints selected Olave in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Over the course of his first four NFL seasons, he has appeared in 49 games, recording 251 receptions for 3,229 yards and 14 touchdowns.
It always seemed ridiculous that the Saints would even consider trading Olave, especially since he’s one of the top receivers in the NFL. With a rookie quarterback like Tyler Shough stepping in, he needs all the playmakers he can get to support him.
If Olave agrees to a contract extension with the Saints soon, the Patriots will need to pivot and explore new potential wide receiver options they might trade for during the 2026 offseason.
