The New England Patriots need several positional upgrades this offseason. Wide receiver is among the leaders of the pack.

New England got next to nothing from its 2024 receiver picks in second-rounder Ja’Lynn Polk and fourth-rounder Javon Baker. Whether it’s making a splash in free agency or through trade, the Patriots need a proven commodity because multiple regimes in New England failed to develop receivers from the draft.

When assessing the wideout market in this year’s draft, Patriots executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf didn’t exactly sound thrilled about the talent at the top of draft boards for the critical position.

“I think it’s OK,” Wolf told reporters in Indianapolis Wednesday, per team-provided video. “I think this draft is probably a little meatier in the middle than it is at the top in a lot of ways. I think the receiver position is probably reflective of that as well. There are some players up there, throughout the rounds that I think can help us.”

Offensive line or defensive playmaker appears to be the direction for the Patriots with the No. 4 overall pick, which further feels like the case after Wolf’s assessment of the receiver group.

Player workouts run from Thursday to Sunday this weekend at Lucas Oil Stadium with a busy to-do list for the Patriots.
