“MVP! MVP! MVP!”
New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye has heard that chant more than just about anything over the last several weeks, and that trend continued following an easy victory over the New York Jets — but he still doesn’t exactly know how to react.
“It’s the guys around me. I think that’s the biggest thing — they do a lot of the work for me,” Maye said during the Thursday Night Football postgame show on Amazon Prime.
Maye has deflected whenever asked about his place in individual awards races, and didn’t change a thing despite displaying more excellence in the primetime victory…
“We try to build the identity that (head coach Mike Vrabel) always talks about,” Maye concluded. “I think the biggest thing is, we still have work to do.”
I don’t think anyone would argue with that last point, but considering the club just moved to 9-2 and doesn’t have another game until Nov. 23, perhaps everyone can just enjoy how far they’ve come and how far they can continue to go.
The Patriots can’t take a victory lap just yet, but that won’t stop others.
