Yes, the Green Bay Packers are 9-3-1, and yes, they just took the lead in the NFC North division with a big home win over the Chicago Bears. Yes, they currently hold the #2 seed in the NFC playoffs.
Even with those caveats, it was still a bit surprising to see the Packers installed as favorites for their week 15 game on the road against the Denver Broncos. Green Bay is favored by 2.5 points as of Monday morning, according to FanDuel sportsbook, keeping them favored on the opening line in every game in the 2025 season.
Meanwhile, if the line holds this will be just the fifth time that the Broncos are underdogs in 2025. Their previous four games went as follows:
Again, it’s surprising to see the Broncos, who have won 9 straight games, as home underdogs. However, their recent results have slipped, and despite fielding an excellent defense, they have escaped with some extremely fortunate wins in recent weeks.
Only one of the Broncos’ last five wins has come by more than three points, that being yesterday’s 24-17 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. Prior to that, they beat the Washington Commanders 27-26 in overtime thanks to a failed two-point conversion, and they recorded three straight three-point wins over Kansas City, Las Vegas, and Houston. Denver also needed one of the NFL’s most ridiculous fourth-quarter comebacks to beat the New York Giants 33-32 in week 7, when they scored all 33 of their points in the final 15 minutes.
Perhaps those reasons combined — and the fact that the Packers appear to be firmly back on track after three straight division games — are why Green Bay will head into Denver as the favorites on Sunday.
Both the Packers and Broncos defenses are playing well, however, and the books expect a low-scoring game. The total points line is just 42.5, which will be one of the lowest of the season for the Packers. Green Bay ranks 6th in scoring defense, while Denver sits in 4th.
Notably, the history between these two teams has been dominated by home teams. A visiting team has just one win in the 15 regular-season games between these franchises, that win being a 19-13 Packers victory in Denver in 2007. Green Bay won that game on an 82-yard touchdown pass from Brett Favre to Greg Jennings early in overtime.
