The Green Bay Packers have officially put center Elgton Jenkins on the injured reserve after he fractured his lower leg in the Monday Night Football loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Without Jenkins, Sean Rhyan, who was previously rotating in at right guard, will start for the Packers at center.
In a corresponding roster move, Green Bay also brought up special teams contributor Kristian Welch up to the 53-man roster. Welch was initially brought up to the 53-man roster when Nick Neimann was placed on the injured reserve two weeks ago, but Welch was brought back down to the practice squad last week.
As far as the gameday roster is concerned, since Welch made the 48-man gameday roster as a practice squad call-up versus the Eagles, the only real difference will be Jacob Monk subbing in for Jenkins. Monk will likely be the team’s primary backup interior offensive lineman, unless the team believes their next guard up is Darian Kinnard, who, in Green Bay, has only played the tackle position. Previously, Kinnard contributed as a guard and tackle for the Eagles, prior to his trade. Monk has played both center and guard for the Packers in the preseason over the last two years, but he hasn’t played a regular-season offensive snap in 2025.
With the promotion of Welch, Green Bay has an open spot on its practice squad. Here’s the positional breakdown of their 17-man unit:
I would guess that the Packers will add either a defensive end or a cornerback to their practice squad, depending on how defensive end Lukas Van Ness feels this week. With Nate Hobbs out with a knee injury, Green Bay only has five cornerbacks available in practice, three of which have never played a regular-season snap on defense. One of them, Bo Melton, is clearly getting time with the offense, too.
