Overreactions: Saints vs. Dolphins

The New Orleans Saints fell short in their comeback attempt on Sunday, as they were beaten 21-17 by the Miami Dolphins in Week 13 of the 2025 NFL season at Hard Rock Stadium. Here’s the biggest overreaction from this weekend’s matchup:

Charlie Smyth doesn’t look back and remains Saints starting kicker of the future.

The wait is over for the International Player Pathway product, as he finally made his professional debut following the release of former team captain Blake Grupe—and he didn’t disappoint.

After nailing a 66-yard field goal in warmups, Smyth faced a tough task for his first NFL attempt—but he made the most of it, drilling a 56-yarder right down the middle, one that easily could have gone 70 yards.

The 24-year-old also delivered one of the most impressive and clutch onside kicks I’ve seen in recent years—interestingly, in the same building where Thomas Morstead pulled off the famous “ambush” kick to start the second half of Super Bowl 44. The kick had a nice bounce and landed in perfect position for Devaughn Vele to snag it.

Smyth said he was “absolutely buzzing” after the performance, and his family and friends in Mayobridge, Ireland were loving every moment.

Saints HC Kellen Moore said Smyth did enough against Miami to remain the team’s starting kicker.
