New England Patriots rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson has experienced quite a rollercoaster season, but he truly impressed in the last three games.
Henderson has been on fire, rushing 38 times for 277 yards and two touchdowns over the past three weeks. In the Patriots’ 28-23 victory against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, he showcased his talent by running for an impressive 147 yards and two touchdowns of 50-plus yards.
If the Patriots are going to want to compete for a Super Bowl this season, Henderson will need to have more performances like he did on Sunday, and Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox thinks it could happen. Knox predicted Henderson as the Patriots’ second-half breakout candidate.
“For much of the season, it felt like the New England Patriots might have forgotten about rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson,” Knox wrote on Wednesday. “Over the past three weeks, though, he has racked up 277 rushing yards and two touchdowns while flashing elite-level breakaway speed.
“Drake Maye, a legitimate MVP candidate, may be driving New England’s success this season, but Henderson could be the breakout star who propels them to a deep playoff run.”
Henderson has the opportunity to build on last week’s success as the Patriots go head-to-head with the Jets on “Thursday Night Football.” With New York allowing an average of 138.2 rushing yards per game, this could pave the way for Henderson to have a standout performance.
