At least half a dozen NFL owners have a compelling case as the “worst” at their position right now, but the players themselves think Woody Johnson stands out from the rest of the pack.
The New York Jets have been a disaster during the Woody Johnson ownership era. They hold the longest active playoff drought (now at 15 years) and have gone 173-231-0 over his 25 seasons at the helm.
The NFLPA released its report cards for 2025 on Wednesday. Jets players gave Johnson an “F” grade, which placed him 32nd among all NFL team owners. Specifically, players gave him a 5.58/10 “average rating for perceived willingness to invest in the facilities.”
Johnson also finished dead last among player grading in terms of contributing “to a positive team culture.” He was also 31st in grading for being “committed to building a competitive team.”

Woody Johnson thought the Jets would rise from the ashes after completing a blockbuster trade for Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers in 2023. The hope was that the four-time MVP and future Hall of Famer would bring a winning culture to a young Jets team that had young stars to build around like Sauce Gardner, Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall.
But Rodgers suffered a season-ending Achilles tear minutes into his 2023 Jets debut. Though he stayed healthy in 2024, the Jets inexplicably worsened under Rodgers and limped to a 5-12 finish.
The Jets brought in a new head coach and GM in Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey, respectively. They already informed the 41-year-old Rodgers that he won’t be returning in 2025.
And so, another fresh start is ahead in Gotham. All Jets fans can do now is hope Johnson stays out of the way and lets Glenn and Mougey do their job.
