New York Jets quarterback and soon-to-be free agent Aaron Rodgers is being tied to a surprise NFC team at the NFL Scouting Combine.
Two weeks ago, the Jets announced that they planned to move on from Aaron Rodgers following a disastrous 2024 season. The Jets are expected to release Rodgers by the time the new league year begins on Mar. 12 at 4:00 p.m. EST.
With NFL teams in Indianapolis to prepare for the Scouting Combine, the 41-year-old Rodgers is unsurprisingly dominating the trade rumor mill.
According to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, there were talks in Indianapolis on Tuesday about Aaron Rodgers speaking to the quarterback-needy New York Giants:
“There was talk at the Combine on Tuesday that Rodgers has reached out to the Giants…
It’s a surprising twist, to say the least. Currently, the Giants are not objectively “good.” They could end up being better in 2025 than they were in 2024, and Rodgers could help them get there. Playing for the Giants also would result in Rodgers not having to move.
It’s unclear whether the Giants would be interested in Rodgers. Yes, he could be better than other options they’ll have, especially if he’ll take less cash in order to stick it a little bit (or a lot) to the Jets, who didn’t want to keep him. But Giants fans who witnessed his two years with the other team in town might not be interested in signing up for a year or two with a guy whose star is fading.”
Juiciest rumor from the Combine, so far . . . Aaron Rodgers has reached out to the Giants. Which, if true, suggests he's not getting much if any interest from contenders like the Steelers. https://t.co/7eIWfKcY5w

The Giants released Daniel Jones late in the season with two years remaining on the $160 million extension he signed in 2023. Veteran backup Drew Lock finished out as their starter, but he obviously isn’t a long-term solution behind center.
GM Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll are surely goners if the Giants don’t re-emerge as playoff contenders in 2025. With their jobs on the line, don’t be surprised if New York pursues a veteran QB like Aaron Rodgers or Matthew Stafford to help them compete ASAP.
As bad as the Jets were in 2024, the four-time MVP showed that he’s still a capable starter in the NFL. Playing behind one of the league’s worst offensive lines, Rodgers still completed 63.0 percent of his pass attempts for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
