Breaking down one of the ways that Cleveland could attack the 2025 NFL Draft
Despite NFL Draft talk being frowned upon during the regular season, it’s unfortunately the only thing that the Cleveland Browns faithful have to look forward to now.
The team is in a “unique” situation when it comes to how they can approach the next couple of drafts due to the Deshaun Watson trade debacle. For starters, the quarterback class in the upcoming NFL Draft isn’t very strong so there are options for the team that revolve around ignoring that spot early on.
Leaning into that idea, a realistic strategy that the Browns could deploy is centered around one main task:
Cleveland must establish their starting quarterback for the 2025 season fairly early, specifically before the NFL Draft.
Suppose the Browns can find their starting quarterback for the 2025 season before the draft in May, whether that’s re-signing James Winston or finding another solution via free agency.
In that case, the team has the freedom to focus on strengthening its “cornerstone” positions such as wide receiver, defensive back, and offensive/defensive line. This year’s class looks to be a perfect opportunity for this seeing that it’s chock-full of talent and depth at those position groups.
The Browns could also take a chance on another developmental QB such as Indiana’s Kurtis Rourke or Ole Miss’ Jaxson Dart in the middle rounds.
In Jared Mueller’s latest mock draft, he utilized a similar strategy that resulted in Cleveland adding one of the most impactful players in the class.
