Jacoby Brissett was dealt a tough hand in his second stint with the Patriots, but he also didn’t do anything to suggest he still was deserving of a starting quarterback job in the NFL.

Nonetheless, one league analyst believes Brissett will be out there in Week 1 of the 2025 campaign.

Brissett all but surely will find a new home this offseason. While it would make some sense for New England to retain the 32-year-old to be a mentor to Drake Maye as well as an experienced backup, Brissett himself probably is eager for a fresh start after a rough run in Foxboro, Mass., last season.

ESPN’s Seth Walder believes that opportunity could be found in Tennessee, where the Titans need a quarterback change but might not take one No. 1 overall in the draft.

“In this scenario, Brissett again takes on the role of a bridge quarterback who could mentor a young signal-caller,” Walder wrote. “I think the Titans, who have a new general manager and thus have time on their side, will trade down with the Giants and select a quarterback either at the tail end of the first round or on Day 2. But the well-respected Brissett starts in Week 1 for Tennessee.”

Brissett probably should be a last-resort option for the Titans, even if they are only looking for a bridge signal-caller. Tennessee is poised to feature a supporting cast that will be as weak — or even weaker — than New England’s 2024 group, and we all saw how poorly Brissett performed across those five weeks.

There probably is a roster spot and role out there somewhere for the 2016 third-round pick. But at this point, there’s an easy case to be made that Brissett should only see the field in emergencies.
