PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers’ defense could be getting some guys back ahead of its rematch with the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. Thumping inside linebacker Cole Holcomb (illness) and safety Jabrill Peppers (quad) will be limited participants during practice early this week.

“Cole Holcomb is still working his way back to us, man,” Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex. “He’ll be a limited participant to start the week, and we’ll see where that participation goes, in terms of the amount and the quality of it. … Pep, Peppers was running in a limited capacity the latter part of last week. I’d imagine that’ll make him a limited participant tomorrow, and we’ll kinda go from there.”

Holcomb is in his third season with the Steelers, having made a return from a gruesome leg injury he suffered in 2023. He didn’t play at all in 2024 while recovering, and has appeared in seven games this go-round, making 25 combined tackles and forcing a fumble.

Peppers was brought in after starter DeShon Elliott injured his knee in the Steelers’ Week 1 win over the New York Jets. A former first-round pick and ninth-year NFL veteran, Peppers has played in six games in black and gold, making eight total tackles.
