A blockbuster trade proposal has the Detroit Lions acquiring Cleveland Browns superstar defensive end Myles Garrett in what would be an NFL landscape-altering move.

Three weeks ago, Myles Garrett announced in a statement that he requested a trade from the Browns. Garrett stressed his desire to play for a contender, and the Browns were football’s second-worst in 2024 with a 3-14 record.

Browns GM Andrew Berry has been adamant about not trading Garrett, but the organization really doesn’t have a choice if Garrett holds firm. And with the 2025 NFL Draft just two months away, the Browns could get a franchise-changing offer for the All-Pro pass rusher.

Jeff Risdon of Lions Wire proposed a mammoth trade idea that has the Detroit Lions acquiring Myles Garrett, a 2025 fifth-round pick and 2026 second-round pick from Cleveland in exchange for first-round picks in 2025 and 2026 plus third-round selections in both those years, along with defensive tackle Brodric Martin.

The Lions’ lack of pass rushing depth was exposed when superstar Aidan Hutchinson suffered tibia and fibula fractures in Week 6 against the Dallas Cowboys. Hutchinson missed the rest of the season, yet he finished as Detroit’s sacks leader with 7.5

Trade deadline acquisition Za’Darius Smith was second on the team with four in eight games, followed by Alim McNeill with only 3.5.

So yes, the Lions definitely need to address the defensive line in the offseason. If GM Brad Holmes could somehow pull off a blockbuster trade for Garrett, he wouldn’t have to do much more in the offseason.

Myles Garrett Would Give Lions’ NFL’s No. 1 Defense

The Lions already have arguably a top-10 pass rusher in Aidan Hutchinson. But Myles Garrett, with 102.5 career sacks in just 117 games, might be the best defensive player in all of football.

Garrett and Hutchinson would emerge as the NFL’s best pass-rushing duo, with a stout secondary led by Kerby Joseph, Brian Branch and Terrion Arnold behind them.
