Silver And Black Pride
Another Sunday and another loss for the Las Vegas Raiders, dropping their 11th division game in a row and fourth consecutive contest to the Denver Broncos. But let’s check in and see how Week 14 fared for a few old friends: Keisean Nixon, Josh Jacobs and Jakobi Meyers.
Nixon has gone from being an undrafted free agent and primarily a special teams player for the Raiders to the Green Bay Packers’ No. 1 cornerback. Sunday might have cemented that role for him, coming up clutch with a game-winning interception off Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams to seal the win. Nixon’s pick came in the end zone with 0:27 seconds left and prevented what could have been the Bears’ game-tying or winning touchdown, depending on the point after attempt. Also, the Packers’ win moves them into first place for the NFC North and just a half-game behind the Los Angeles Chargers for the No. 1 seed in the playoffs.
Staying in Green Bay, Jacobs also had a good performance in the big win. His touchdown ends a rare two-game scoreless drought (he got injured in one of those two contests) and means he’s found the end zone in nine out of the 12 games he’s played in this season. Jacobs is currently tied for third with 12 rushing scores, which is the fourth time he’s reached that mark in seven seasons. Also, the 2019 first-round pick has 817 rushing yards on the campaign and is on pace to have his fifth 1,000-yard season.
Staying with the theme of big divisional wins, the Jaguars took command of the AFC South with a dominant performance against the Indianapolis Colts. That gives Jacksonville a one-game lead over Indianapolis, which also lost starting quarterback Daniel Jones to a torn Achilles tendon in this game, and the Houston Texans heading into the final month of the regular season. Meanwhile, it was a modest day for Meyers with his fewest yards since getting traded to Jacksonville five weeks ago. However, it was pouring rain, the Jags led 28-10 at halftime and he managed to score for the third week in a row. He’s been exactly what the team’s offense needed at the trade deadline.
