After just a few weeks in charge, new New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey made the decision to move on from future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Some Jets players weren’t happy with the decision and made their feelings public.
After announcing they were moving on from Aaron Rodgers, defensive tackle Quinnen Williams tweeted thumbs-down emoji with the caption “another rebuild year for me I guess.” Williams has never made the playoffs since being drafted by the Jets in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
Speaking at the NFL Combine this week, Aaron Glenn revealed that he spoke to Williams about the situation.
“Yes, I have talked to him. And listen, I understand the reaction of the players, but I’ll say this: Every decision that me and [general manager Darren Mougey] make is to win and to win now,” Glenn said.
“So, I understand it, but again: Listen, this is not going to be the last decision I make that’s going to upset some people, and that’s OK. But as men, we talk about it. We make sure we keep it in-house, and that’s what we’re going to continue to do.”
During the 2024 season with the Jets, his lone season as the franchise’s starting quarterback, Rodgers posted a 5-12 record while completing 63% of his passes for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
