Field Gulls
The expectations for his success were somewhat limited, yet his time in Los Angeles produced historic results. Cooper Kupp, Washington state native, Los Angeles Rams legend, and NFL record holder, returns to SoFi stadium with the Seattle Seahawks this Sunday, preparing as if it were just “another football game.” Because really, what other choice does he have?
In a possibly precious but touching move, the Los Angeles Rams have prepared a tribute video to be played prior to kickoff for their former number one option, prompting Kupp to respond upon hearing the news as such at Wednesday’s press conference:
“I didn’t know that,” Kupp said. “I mean, I didn’t die, I’m here. I appreciate it. I’m obviously so thankful for my time there. It was an incredible experience. I built so much with just the fans, with the guys that I was able to play with and just great experiences. Nothing but love for that city.”
With an advancing age and injuries that have put his best years behind him, Cooper Kupp’s value to the team is weighted more towards his leadership for a very young Seattle Seahawks squad that can use all the guidance it can get. On preparing for Sunday’s tilt versus the Rams, Kupp had this to say, “It’s another football game. Get out there and play your game. I love these guys [Seahawks], and I love so many of the guys over there. But at the end of the day, [I’ve] got to go play a football game. So that’s going to be what it is. Try to treat this the same as any other game. Go out there and just be able to lock in, do your job, one play after the next and take that play-by-play mindset. Same as usual.”
Kupp continued, “Like I said, you’ve got to be able to lock in for the game and what’s ahead of you. I think it’ll be fun. I’m excited to go out there. It’s a really good football team and presents some great challenges for us. I’m exited to go out there and compete.”
And we are excited to see Kupp, hometown-boy-made-good, drop into the soft part of the zone and pick up a couple or more crucial first downs against our division rival in a game some are calling a “must win” for our Seahawks. I don’t know about that last part. But no doubt, the competitor in Cooper Kupp will shine through, no matter the circumstance.
Go, ‘Hawks!
