The New England Patriots’ injury luck abruptly flipped after 13 regular season games without a bye.
Rookie offensive tackle Will Campbell was sent to the injured reserve last week, and rookie offensive guard Jared Wilson was joined by six other inactive Patriots on Monday night’s injury report.
Although Wilson has not been sent to the IR with Campbell, the latest news coming out of Foxboro indicates that offensive line health remains a question mark going forward.
New England hosted undrafted rookie free agent Mehki Butler for a free agent tryout, Mike Reiss reported Monday.
Butler was added to the Patriots’ 90-man roster in May. He spent all of training camp with New England before being cut from the practice squad after Week 1.
The timing of the tryout could mean that the Patriots are in more trouble in the offensive trenches than they are letting on.
There were two linemen on IR and two out with injuries on Monday night against the New York Giants.
Additionally, veteran center Garrett Bradbury has been on and off the injury report, and 34-year-old tackle Morgan Moses was questionable during the week.
Tackle Thayer Munford Jr. was poached off the Cleveland Browns practice squad last week and immediately saw playing time in his first game with the Patriots.
There are currently four offensive linemen on the 17-man practice squad. However, with fifth-year tackle Brenden Jameis nearing his practice squad elevation limit, it makes sense that the Patriots would be looking to potentially add another body in the room.
