While nothing-to-see-here New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel thinks Christian Gonzalez will show up soon, a former standout warned the team about getting a new deal for the standout defensive back. An NFL insider gave bold advice to Gonzalez about his mandatory minicamp decision, according to a post on X by Patriots on CLNS.

“It makes little to no sense for him to go out there & risk it…If they’re as close as it seems…he might as well wait it out (and) get the money. Sign the contract, & then go out there & do his thing. And I don’t think that the organization should have any problem with that.” @mikekadlick

What does DB Christian Gonzalez want from the Patriots?

Gonzalez is working under a four-year deal that pays him under $4 million per year. And that won’t fly, according to a post on X by Savage.

“Patriots insider @tomecurran on Christian Gonzalez missing OTA’s @NBCSBoston: ‘He is not going to play for 4 million dollars. He should be making 32-35 million dollars a year. He is not going to take a rep in anger until he is being paid commensurate to what he has to do.’ ”

Teammate Marcus Jones said the Patriots’ players have Gonzalez’s back, according to boston.com.

“When it comes down to it, we support him and also the organization,” Jones said. “At the end of the day, that’s their thing. We’re ready when it comes down to him. I know he’s always one of those guys where no matter where he’s at, he’s always working. It’s a day-by-day thing. I’ve been in the situation of learning about how contract negotiation stuff goes about. At the end of the day, they want what’s best for them, and he wants what’s best for him.”

Gonzalez has stated he wants to stay with the Patriots.

“Oh, yeah, no doubt,” Gonzalez said. “This is where I got drafted, and I don’t want to be anywhere else.”
