“I don’t want to say there’s long-term concern,” Shanahan said. “We thought he just needed some rest. Really weren’t concerned about him not being good this week, but when he started up Thursday, it surprised him, surprised us how it felt, so we had to shut him down.”
That’s not encouraging. Shanahan typically understates injury information with his quarterbacks. He also said that Purdy’s status is “up in the air for next week.”
Five 49ers to watch in pivotal Week 12 NFC showdown vs. Packers
“Bosa banged up, so there is little question Floyd provides the 49ers with their best chance to put pressure on Packers quarterback Jordan Love. Bosa leads the team with seven sacks and 34 hurries. Floyd has 21 hurries.
Love has thrown at least one interception in nine consecutive games, beginning with the 49ers’ victory over Green Bay in the playoffs last season. If they get pressure on him Sunday, they should be able to force a big takeaway or two.”
Kyle Shanahan, Brandon Allen discuss 49ers-Packers Week 12 matchup
“Yeah, I think they’ve done a great job all week. Like I said, we have a big next-man-up mentality, so nothing’s really changed for those guys. They work every week. And I think we’ve had a really good week of practice and getting our timing down with me throwing the ball and all that with some of the guys just because we don’t have the built up reps that Brock does with them. But I think it’s been a blessing having those guys in the huddle with me and some of the leadership that’s in that huddle so I can just come in and fill the spot for Brock for now and just try to make some plays and get the ball in their hands.”
49ers rule out QB Brock Purdy, DE Nick Bosa for Packers game
““This is something that we didn’t think would happen early in the week,” Shanahan said. “We were fully preparing for Brock to go and got a little surprised about this yesterday.”
According to Shanahan, Purdy had an MRI on the shoulder Monday and it did not show any structural damage that would offer cause for concern that he could miss extended time. But Shanahan also said he was unsure when Purdy will be back.
“I don’t want to say there’s long-term concern,” Shanahan said. “We thought he just needed some rest and we really weren’t concerned about [him] not being good this week. But when he started up Thursday, it just surprised him, surprised us with how it felt. So, we had to shut him down. I really don’t know what to think of it. ... But the way it responded this week, it’s really up in the air next week. We’ll have to see on Monday.”
