The New England Patriots picked up a fairly comfortable 33-15 victory over the New York Giants on Monday Night Football, and while the game was enjoyable for the Pats, the opposite was true for the Giants.

For a fairly uncompetitive game, there was a lot of drama in this one. In the first quarter, New York made a controversial decision to bench star rookie pass rusher Abdul Carter for the second time in the past three weeks due to disciplinary reasons.

Carter eventually found his way onto the field and picked up the first sack of his NFL career, but it’s clear the team isn’t pleased with him behind the scenes. In the wake of this loss, Giants’ general manager Joe Schoen opened up on Carter’s benching.

“Giants GM Joe Schoen says Abdul Carter is ‘smart and understands the magnitude of his actions and also understands what it means to be a pro. These kids are 21 years old and they’re thrust in the spotlight in New York City. It’s not always going to be perfect,'” Mike Garafolo of NFL Network shared in a post on X.

Ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft, Carter was frequently linked to New England, but New York ended up selecting him with the No. 3 overall pick. The Pats would take left tackle Will Campbell with the No. 4 overall pick, and it’s safe to say that decision has worked out quite well for them so far.

It’s only Carter’s first season in the pros, meaning he has a ton of time to turn things around, but his rookie campaign has been a major disappointment so far. And while things were already going badly for the Giants, it looks like their loss to the Patriots may have officially broken the team.
