After four years under Brian Daboll’s guidance, the New York Giants are ready to start over at head coach. The good news is, this time, the next coach won’t have to worry about who his franchise quarterback will be; they’ll just need to maximize Jaxson Dart’s potential.
For now, former Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka is getting the first crack at the gig on an interim basis. Should he do well, it’s possible Kafka can get promoted as a more permanent head coach. Until Kafka either fails or lands the full-time head coaching job, speculation will continue to mount on who the next Giants’ head coach will be.
It’s far too early to make definitive statements, but in today’s sports atmosphere, there are plenty of discussions already taking place. Some of them are fueling the latest odds on the favorite to be the next Giants coach.
In fact, now former Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy has emerged as the current betting favorite to replace Brian Daboll + Mike Kafka as the next coach of the Giants.
He’d be a controversial pick, not just because McCarthy used to coach the Cowboys, but also because some feel as if his teams failed to live up to expectations, especially when the playoffs arrived. Nevertheless, McCarthy does have a Super Bowl ring on his finger from getting the most out of Aaron Rodgers and the Packers in Green Bay.
In other words, the Giants could do a lot worse than a coach like McCarthy, who sports a career win-loss record of 174-112-2. That’s lightyears ahead of Daboll’s 20-40-1 record in New York.
