Anderson notes there’s interest in the open Colorado State job, and that Stewart has already assembled a veteran staff of prominent NCAA and NFL coaches.

Stewart served as volunteer offensive coordinator at South Forsyth High School in Cummings, Georgia this season under new head coach James Thomson.
It was Stewart’s first coaching position since retiring after an 11-year NFL career, eight of which came with the Steelers.
“I thought this would be a great challenge,” Stewart told Forsyth Sports. “I want to use my experience as a player, like they are now, to now become a coach and take in all of those concepts and ideas and football IQ.”
South Forsyth has struggled over the last two seasons, winning just three games (2-8 in 2024 and 1-9 in 2023). Stewart hopes to help change the culture of the program.
“For me, as a former player, it’s just all about the approach. We have coaches and we have teachers, I like to consider myself a teacher,” Stewart said. “Only three wins out of 20 games. The kids are smart, but we have to translate that over into the intellectual level of being a football player on the football field.
“I just try to take everything that’s inside of me to give them that information in increments. That’s when you start taking your hands off them and let them soar. … I think we have a good enough coaching staff to allow this team to look a little different than what it’s been looking like.”
Stewart spent time in Pittsburgh from 1995-2002 mostly at quarterback, however, made his name as a versatile player; able to play receiver, running back, and even occasionally punting. He posted a 48-29 record as a quarterback, scoring 110 total touchdowns.
Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kordell Stewart was ahead of his time in the 1990s. If he played about 15 years later, he would have been utilized a lot better. In today’s game, his dual-threat abilities certainly would flourish.
Stewart was a pioneer of the modern day dual-threat quarterback.
