The New England Patriots were extremely intentional in the way they did things in Monday’s victory over the New York Giants — at least according to David Andrews.
Andrews, in an appearance on 98.5 The Sports Hub’s “Zolak & Bertrand” on Tuesday, said he believes they made one specific decision in the early portion of the game.
“I think it was intentional,” Andrews said of the decision to run behind reserve offensive linemen Vederian Lowe and Ben Brown on the first play of the game. “It’s a way to get those guys going.”
Lowe and Brown, of course, were forced into the lineup after rookie Will Campbell (knee) was placed on injured reserve and rookie Jared Wilson (ankle) was made inactive after each of them suffered injuries last Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals. The Patriots’ reserves played well, combining to allow just two hits and helping the club average 4.1 yards per rush and 8.1 yards per pass attempt.
New England almost certainly feels better about that duo than they did entering the game, with just a couple of games separating them from the starting lineup and a return to the sideline.
