The Philadelphia Eagles should look a lot different on offense in 2026. Philadelphia replaced Kevin Patullo with Sean Mannion at offensive coordinator, which should drastically change the team’s scheme. The other big difference is not having A.J. Brown after trading him to the Patriots.
ESPN shed some light on what led to Brown’s eventual trade during a recent article.
One important factor in the trade was the alleged beef between Brown and QB Jalen Hurts. While Brown maintains that there is “no bad blood” between the two players, Philly’s front office was still nervous about team chemistry.
“The Eagles didn’t want a situation in which it felt like they weren’t in it together, knowing they’ve been at their best when team chemistry is right,” ESPN wrote. “Through conversations between Brown and management, it became apparent early in the offseason that Brown wanted out of Philly, believing it was best for the next stage of his career.”
It did not take long for both sides to buy into the idea of a trade. In fact, it became clear back in March that June 1st could be the day the trade goes down.
“The Eagles and Patriots acknowledged in March and into April that they were serious about a potential deal, one source recalled,” ESPN added. “But Philadelphia’s initial asking prices were hefty, added the source, who recalled a first-round pick and a significant additional pick in exchange for Brown.”
One Eagles sourced added that the team did not request two first-round picks in their original trade request.
Ultimately, Philadelphia landed a 2028 first-round pick and an additional late-round pick in exchange for Brown. Now the Eagles simply need to figure out their next steps forward without Brown on the offense.
It will be exciting to watch Philly’s new-look offense during the 2026 season.
