Drake Maye is impressing everyone these days, including one of his former Patriots teammates.
The sophomore quarterback was excellent Monday night, completing 77.4% of his passes for 282 yards and two touchdowns in a 33-15 home win over the New York Giants. As Maye and New England authored their 10th straight victory, former Patriots linebacker Ja’Whaun Bentley weighed in on social media.
“Nothin (Maye) does surprises me,” Bentely wrote on X. “U can tell when a player is ‘one of them.’ “
Bentley played seven seasons for the Patriots, including in 2024 when a torn pectoral muscle limited him to just two games. Nevertheless, Maye clearly made a strong impression on Bentley throughout his rookie campaign.
Bentley went unsigned last offseason before joining the Pittsburgh Steelers practice squad in mid-September. The 29-year-old was released last month and remains a free agent.
As for Maye, the rising star now is the betting favorite to win the NFL MVP with five weeks left in the season. He and the Patriots will enjoy their bye this week before returning in Week 15 for a home matchup with the Buffalo Bills.
