Browns injury updates as Deshaun Watson rehabs from a reinjury
While most assume that QB Deshaun Watson’s time with the Cleveland Browns has come to an end, his contract means that won’t happen for a season or two. Watson’s failures with the Browns have cost the team more than just money as the fanbase, for a variety of reasons, has not recovered from the mistake which was highlighted by the team’s three-win season in 2024.
With the NFL combine in process, we heard from GM Andrew Berry with a majority of the conversation around quarterbacks in the NFL draft, DE Myles Garrett’s trade request and RB Nick Chubb entering free agency.
On day 2 of the combine, HC Kevin Stefanski took his turn to talk to the media and surprised many by sharing that QB Deshaun Watson was rehabbing with the team in Berea “every day”:
Watson tore his Achilles tendon during the 2024 season then re-tore the Achilles early in the offseason.
In three seasons with the Browns, Watson has played just 19 games with the team having a 9-10 record in those games. Watson completed 61% of his passes for 3,365 yards with 19 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
There has been speculation that Cleveland may be looking to void Watson’s deal if his second injury occurred outside of team-approved rehab plans. A former NFL executive suggested that the Browns would not attempt to do so due to the impact on the team’s reputation.
Based on Stefanski’s answer, the idea of voiding his deal might be moot.
