The Indianapolis Colts announced on Saturday that the team has activated linebacker Jaylon Carlies (ankle) off of injured reserve and also elevated both placekicker Blake Grupe and defensive tackle Chris Wormley to the 53-man active roster off their practice squad ahead of Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The team also downgraded defensive lineman Tyquan Lewis (ankle) to out.
It’s great news on Carlies, who head coach Shane Steichen had said earlier in the week had another great week of practice, but it was either now or never—as had the 2nd-year linebacker not been activated before Sunday’s game, he would’ve been out for the remainder of the 2025 season (elapsing his 21-day window to be activated off I.R.).
While veteran Germaine Pratt has filled in admirably at starting linebacker since being signed in-season, Carlies could provide an upgrade in coverage, potentially forming a platoon down the road with Pratt—who’s more adept against the run in contrast to Carlies.
Meanwhile, Grupe is the replacement for recently released veteran kicker Michael Badgley. He’s reunited with Colts special teams coach Brian Mason, who previously coached him at Notre Dame.
During 11 starts for the New Orleans Saints earlier this season, Grupe converted 18 of 26 field goal attempts (69.2%). While he was a perfect 15 for 15 in extra point attempts, which plagued Badgley in Indy, he’s struggled from long distance in 2025, converting only 5 of 11 field goal attempts from 40+ yards before being released.
Lastly, Wormley was elevated to the active roster for the second time with the Colts in as many weeks. The veteran defensive tackle recorded a sack and 2 tackles in his Indianapolis debut last weekend. He could provide experienced depth again rotationally, particularly with Lewis out.
