The Indianapolis Colts have been mighty impressive this season. Coming into the year, Indianapolis was pegged to be a middle-of-the-pack team. Who would’ve thought that a team led by Daniel Jones would be 7-1 eight weeks into the season? They’ve been dominant against weaker competition and have held their own against some of the better teams in the league.

What makes their run even more impressive, though, is that they’re doing this with a revolving cast of players on defense. The Colts have quietly played hurt all throughout the season. Their secondary, in particular, has been banged up over the last few weeks. The biggest blow came against the Arizona Cardinals in Week, when CB1 Charvarius Ward was placed on IR after a serious concussion.

Defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo has made do with what he has so far, but the Colts’ passing defense has taken a serious hit over the last few weeks. Thankfully, help is on the way. Standout cornerback Jaylon Jones, who’s missed most of the season so far, has been activated in preparation for their Week 9 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“Colts activated CB Jaylon Jones from IR and signed CB Cameron Mitchell to their 53-man roster from their practice squad,” Adam Schefter reported. “Colts also waived LB Chad Muma and S Trey Washington.”

Jones, a seventh-round pickup by the Colts in the 2023 NFL draft, was one of their better cornerbacks last season. He allowed a passer rating of 86.0 when targeted last season, leveraging his size to lock down opposing wide receivers. However, his third season in the league has been marred by injury. After working his way through a hamstring injury during training camp, Jones was placed on IR after injuring that hamstring in their season opener. He hasn’t played a game since.

The Colts will need all the help they can get against the Steelers in Week 9. Pittsburgh’s strength this season has been its offense with Aaron Rodgers. The Steelers’ pass-heavy offense could prove to be a problem for the depleted Colts, but having Jones come back should help alleviate some of their issues.
