Finding a franchise quarterback is incredibly difficult. Just ask the Cleveland Browns and New York Jets.

Finding an all-time quarterback is even harder. Many franchises have never done it, but it now looks like the New England Patriots have found two in the span of 25 years.

At least that’s what Colin Cowherd thinks.

On Tuesday, Cowherd sung Drake Maye’s praises following the Patriots’ 33-15 rout of the New York Giants on Monday Night Football. While he said he thinks Jaxson Dart could be “a fine franchise quarterback” with “a fine career,” he believes Maye has much greater potential.

“Drake Maye, it’s a different discussion. He looks like he’s gonna be one of these guys about every four years that enters the league and is an all-timer,” Cowherd said. “Size, arm, IQ. I mean Drake Maye, he just doesn’t miss.”

Cowherd continued to praise his development and polish for a young quarterback.

“Stoic, not a lot of bad throws, not getting hit,” Cowherd added. “You get a franchise quarterback every year. You get an all-timer about every four or five years. I think we found one. He is on pace to be the greatest quarterback on first down in the history of the game for a single season.”

Maye’s 131.6 passer rating on first down this year is the highest in NFL history, surpassing Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees.

In just his second season, Maye has already emerged as an elite quarterback. New England is in good hands.
