The Kansas City Chiefs have completely revamped their secondary this offseason, letting go of Trent McDuffie and letting Jaylen Watson walk in free agency. Both are off to the Los Angeles Rams, and now Kansas City’s rebuilding project is continuing.
The Chiefs are now bringing in a staple of their dynasty to help revamp that room. Kansas City is reuniting with cornerback L’Jarius Sneed in free agency, per NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
Sneed was traded to the Tennessee Titans in 2024 after winning two Super Bowls with the Chiefs. He became a star with Kansas City during his first four seasons in the NFL, picking off 10 passes and racking up 40 PBUs in that time.
Since joining the Titans, Sneed has struggled mightily with injuries and overall level of play. He played in just 12 games over the last two seasons in Tennessee and doesn’t have a single interception. He has just three PBUs and 49 tackles during that time.
The hope is that Sneed gets back to his old form playing under Steve Spagnuolo again. He is a perfect scheme fit in Kansas City, and Spags will let him work one-on-one on the outside and be physical with some of the best wide receivers in all of football.
Sneed will play opposite of rookie cornerback Mansoor Delane, who the Chiefs traded up to No. 6 overall in the NFL Draft to select. Delane was arguably the most technically sound cornerback in the draft last season, and the Chiefs clearly had their eyes on him as a McDuffie replacement coming into draft night.
Kansas City is also going to have to manage some turnover at safety, where Alohi Gilman is replacing Bryan Cook after the latter left in free agency. While it may take some time to get things up and running, this is still a talented group capable of anchoring a Chiefs defense looking to get back to the top of the AFC. If Sneed can get back to his best alongside Delane, this will be a very tough team to throw the ball on in 2026.
