How did the Panthers do in fantasy football? Will those trends continue?
The Carolina Panthers put up multiple wins in a row for the first time in a couple years, this time beating the New York Giants in Munich, Germany in Week 10. Let’s take a look back at how individual Panthers players fared and if they are worth keeping moving forward. For these articles, I will be using fantasy totals in an ESPN Fantasy league I am part of, so your numbers might have been slightly different.
While Bryce has definitely looked better since returning to the starting lineup. He is more decisive and confident in the pocket. That being said, “improvement” was a very low bar for the second year quarterback. He was much better at protecting the football against the Giants and threw a touchdown pass. Still, he only threw for 126 yards and managed just 12.04 fantasy points. He is still not worth playing in the majority of fantasy leagues.
The Canadian Crusher. The Maple Monster. The Manic Mounty. Oh Canada, did Chuba Hubbard have himself a game in Germany. Getting paid did not cause a drop in production, as Chuba toted the rock 28 times for 153 rushing yards and a tuddy. He finished with a total of 24.9 fantasy points, further cementing himself as a must-start in fantasy. Definitely stash him on the bench during the bye this week. Jonathon Brooks should make his debut after the bye, but they’ll likely work him in slowly. Chuba is still the bell cow.
For now, at least, Legette’s value in fantasy is highly dependent on whether or not he finds the endzone. He had a decent day netting him 7 fantasy points by hauling in three passes for 40 yards. Definitely not something to write home about, but Legette has shown a propensity to get open in the redzone. Touchdowns are an unreliable stat with a pretty high variance, so Legette should probably be a low flex option after the bye.
Coker put up an eerily similar stat line to Legette, three catches for 41 yards and 7.1 fantasy points. Bryce also just missed Coker on a deep sideline shot that could have easily gone for a huge chunk. He had a career high in targets against the Giants with eight, and every other game he’s made the most of his targets. This was the first week since he earned consistent playing time that he caught less than half his targets. If his target share continues to grow, I think he should get back to his normal catch percentage. He’s another player who should probably be a low flex option after the bye.
