One of the Cleveland Browns’ star defenders made his stance on the Myles Garrett trade very clear.
Ever since the Cleveland Browns traded away reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams, many have questioned the team’s plans for other star players, including cornerback Denzel Ward.
However, Ward recently made his future plans with the Browns very clear.
“I definitely still want to be here,” Ward said via Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN. “Myles is a good friend of mine, a great teammate, but things aren’t lost. It’s Ohio against the world. So people could doubt us, but we’re going out there still trying to play our best ball and bring wins to the city.”
That is certainly good news for the Browns, who may have been expecting a different reaction from Ward. The 29-year-old isn’t getting any younger and trading away Garrett doesn’t help Cleveland’s chances of being competitive in 2026.
Meanwhile, Ward has been one of the best cornerbacks in the league, recording 361 tackles, 0.5 sack, four forced fumbles, six fumble recoveries, 104 passes defensed, 18 interceptions and two touchdowns in his NFL career.
Luckily for the Browns, Ward seems to be firmly on their side of the deal.
“Crazy trade, definitely a crazy trade,”Ward continued. “I believe that either you’re with us or against us, and as you see, he’s not with us. Crazy trade, but hey, that’s the nature of this game.”
It’s unclear if Cleveland would have even entertained trading away Ward, too. ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler recently revealed the Browns have zero intentions to move on from any more of their star players, including Ward.
“Don’t sense this is a fire sale. Was told a hard no on Denzel Ward’s availability, for example,” Fowler posted on X.
