Dawgs By Nature
One of the Cleveland Browns’ favorite players, Bernie Kosar, announced on “X” Wednesday that he is suffering from dire medical issues.
It seems that he has been bleeding internally and recently had two procedures termed “aggressive” in order to stop the bleeding, which had been controlled, but began to bleed again on Monday. Kosar also mentioned that he is awaiting a liver transplant, but that has been delayed.

The liver transplant was scheduled for this past weekend, but was cancelled because the donor organ was infected. This made doctors at University Hospital in Cleveland have to perform one procedure, followed by a second on Tuesday. He was scheduled for a third on Wednesday while he waits for a good organ to become available.
The beloved former quarterback of the Browns agreed to tell his medical story to Cleveland Magazine back in July of 2024. In that expose’, he divulged that he had been diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver and Parkinson’s disease.
He has been on a liver transplant list, but his prognosis has improved. That is, until this past weekend when he started bleeding internally.
Following the surgery, the Browns legend posted an update:
Kosar came to the Browns in the first round of the 1985 NFL supplemental draft out of the University of Miami. He was a highly sought-after NFL prospect with a high football IQ. He also wanted to play for Cleveland, as he grew up a Browns fan while growing up in Boardman, Ohio.
The Minnesota Vikings had intentions of drafting Kosar in the supplemental draft. The Vikings had the fourth pick and traded with the Houston Oilers to select at Number 3. Cleveland was stealth with their trade. They sent their first round picks for that season, and also 1986, along with third and sixth round selections to the Buffalo Bills, who drafted first overall in order to draft Kosar.
He played for Cleveland for nine years and 17 overall. He won a Super Bowl ring in 1993 as a member of the Dallas Cowboys and has been inducted into the Cleveland Browns Legends.
Kosar has passed for 23,301 yards with 124 touchdowns and 87 picks.
