What does it take to become the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns in 2025? Early in the offseason, it seemed like the team had given the early advantage to Kenny Pickett before an injury led to Joe Flacco getting the official starting job. Flacco’s poor play led to his benching and third-round rookie Dillon Gabriel getting the nod.

Gabriel’s concussion led to Shedeur Sanders taking over the offense, but HC Kevin Stefanski continued to speak on a more week-to-week basis regarding Sanders’ holding on to the starting spot, despite a national report noting the season-long plan. Then Sanders outplayed first overall pick Cam Ward in Week 14, leading to Stefanski committing to Sanders as the Browns starter the rest of the season:

In four games, including three starts, Sanders has completed 52% of his passes for 769 yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions. Almost half of those yards and over half of those touchdowns came this week, leading to Stefanski’s commitment to Sanders as the starter.

Sanders may have needed an injury to Pickett, poor play from Flacco, and an injury/poor play combo from Gabriel to get the starter job to begin with, but a great Week 14 has secured him a commitment for the last four games of the season.

What do you think about Stefanski making this decision and announcement after Week 14? What are your expectations for the rest of 2025 for Sanders?
