Last week, Denver Broncos edge rusher Jonathon Cooper was arrested on domestic violence charges in Colorado. Cooper has been with the Broncos for five years and has since been released from jail, with the team releasing a statement saying that they were aware of the incident.

Now, more information has come out about the latest developments in the case.

“Cooper pled not guilty to charges,” reported Mike Klis of 9News on X, formerly Twitter.

Cooper was seen outside the courthouse with his lawyers and various Broncos personnel, including the team’s vice president of player development, Ray Jackson, as well as former Broncos outside linebacker coach, Michael Wilhoite.

“Cooper, his attorney Harvey Steinberg and Douglas County District Attorney’s office have a motion hearing set for July 6 and a jury trial hearing set for July 22 in Douglas County Court. Training camp to roughly start July 25. Steinberg asked for soonest possible trial date and Judge Waidler found July 22 available,” reported Klis on X.

Cooper was a big part of the Broncos’ elite defense last year, helping supplement the burgeoning stardom of Nic Bonnito and putting relentless pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

There have been a handful of domestic violence arrests around the NFL this season, and it remains to be seen how the situation involving Cooper will play out.

As Klis mentioned, there is still well over a month to go until training camp is set to begin for the Broncos and teams around the NFL. The regular season will kick off on September 14 with a road game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
