Buffalo Rumblings
Traveling to Buffalo for Bills vs Chiefs, I’ll be honest, I went into Week 9 not expecting much. I knew the Bills could beat Kansas City, but I also kept reminding myself it depended on what version of the team showed up in all three phases.
This week was the first time I was “home alone,” so in true Sara fashion, I left the hotel later than planned. If someone else is counting on me, I’m extremely punctual. If it’s just me, well… you get the drift. Since I was running late, I decided to skip Hammer’s Lot this week and instead headed straight to Mafia House for a bit before making my way down to Allen Street Parking.
There I ran into Joe Miller and former Buffalo Bill John Fina, and I have to say, whoever made the chili that afternoon deserves a trophy. It was terrific. From there, I wandered over to Game Day Hospitality, where I caught up with Madeline Hall, better known as Buffalo Food Slut, and met up with a small fraction of the Minivan Mafia crew. I wasn’t really in the mood to drink, but they had peanut butter tequila, and if you like peanut butter, you have to try Chica Chida. It’s so smooth you can drink it on the rocks.
It was a low-key, chill afternoon that perfectly matched my vibe. As I said, I wasn’t expecting much, so my anxiety level was lower than it usually is when I think the Bills should win.
But the Bills looked good. There were a few offensive plays that I know Josh Allen would like to have back, but overall I was pleased. The run game was alive, and we didn’t have to shy away from it. James Cook rushed for 114 yards, marking the first time Kansas City allowed a 100-yard rusher since Week 1 of the 2024 season against Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens including playoffs.
The defense shined for the most part, only giving up a few big plays throughout the game. Cole Bishop and Maxwell Hairston were clutch, and Joey Bosa was an absolute game wrecker. In true Bills-Chiefs fashion, it came down to the final drive. After Matt Prater missed a field goal that would have extended the Bills’ lead to two scores, the Chiefs got the ball back with a chance to tie it.
Patrick Mahomes heaved up two Hail Mary attempts, but both were batted down. The Bills walked away with a 28-21 victory.
Next week is my personal “bye” week as I get to stay home in Florida for the Bills at Dolphins. No flights for me, and I’m not mad about it.
The journey continues.
