A former first-round pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers could be on the move. On Tuesday, the Chicago Bears announced they are hosting veteran safety Terrell Edmunds, the No. 28 overall pick by the Steelers in 2018, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Edmunds began the season on the Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad, but he eventually signed with the Steelers on their practice squad in September. He played in five games for them and recorded seven tackles (five solo).

His second stint with the Steelers was short-lived, though. Ahead of the team’s Week 10 matchup against the Washington Commanders, the Steelers released him.

Edmunds will now have a chance to reunite with his younger brother, Tremaine, who was selected 12 spots ahead of him in the 2018 NFL Draft. It would mark the first time they were teammates since their collegiate careers at Virginia Tech.

His brother joined the Bears on a four-year, $72 million contract in 2023 after five seasons with the Buffalo Bills.

Edmunds spent the first five seasons of his NFL career with the Steelers. He even returned for an extra year in Pittsburgh after the team declined the fifth-year option on his contract for the 2022 season.

However, the 27-year-old has never lived up to his first-round expectations. That doesn’t mean Edmunds hasn’t been a reliable player throughout his seven-year NFL career, though.

In 2023, Edmunds spent time with the Tennessee Titans and Philadelphia Eagles, registering 48 tackles, 2.5 sacks, one forced fumble, one interception and two passes defensed.

During his first stint with the Steelers from 2018-22, he amassed 410 tackles (276 solo), five sacks, one fumble recovery, five interceptions and 26 passes defensed.

Some believed the Steelers could look to re-sign Edmunds, but instead, the team decided to reunite with veteran safety Eric Rowe on Tuesday.
